Punjab University (PU) is the oldest and most sought-after public university in Pakistan for non-engineering BS disciplines.
1. The Complex Academic Weightage
Because PU offers heavily diverse disciplines (from IT to Zoology), the standard metric primarily relies on:
- Matriculation: 25% (often modified by department)
- FSc/Intermediate / B.A: 75% PU traditionally deducts a fixed percentage (e.g., 2% per year) if there is a massive gap year between your FSc and your university application. Do not take reckless gap years if applying to PU.
2. Department-Specific Entry Tests
Unlike NUST which has a unified test, PU has shifted towards requiring the PU Admission Test (M-Category or E-Category) for specific high-demand BS programs like CS, SE, and IT. If your intended department mandates the test, the test score typically overrides 25% to 30% of your FSc weightage. Always confirm the specific department's exact quota ratio on their portal.
3. Quota Seats (Hafiz-e-Quran / Sports)
PU strictly enforces extra marks (usually 20 raw marks added to your intermediate score) if you are a certified Hafiz-e-Quran or hold a recognized national-level sports certificate.
