Virtual University (VU) Merit Calculation Guide 2026
The Virtual University of Pakistan offers remote, digitized education. Admission here revolves around eligibility rather than competitive cutoffs.
1. The "Open Access" Policy
VU does not utilize entry tests for the vast majority of its BS programs. If you meet the HEC minimum requirement (typically 50% in FSc/FA for most programs, or 45% for general humanities), you are granted admission. There is no complex "aggregate calculation" or merit lists to wait for.
2. The Zero Semester for Deficiency
If you apply for BS Computer Science but you secured less than 50% (but above 45%) in your intermediate, or you lack the math prerequisite, VU will force you into a "Zero Semester." You must pass this preliminary mathematics and basics semester before officially starting the 1st semester of the degree.
3. Specialized Merits (Biological Sciences)
While IT is open-access, specific programs like BS Zoology or Biotechnology at VU frequently enforce strict regional seat caps purely because of limited physical laboratory spaces (VU campuses utilize affiliated physical colleges for lab execution). Apply early to secure your spot in science programs.
