Student Life in Lahore: A Complete Survival Guide
Lahore completely consumes you. As a student migrating here, you must master the city's mechanics.
1. The Orange Train & Metro Bus
Never rely on Careem or InDrive for daily university commutes; it will drain your monthly budget in 10 days. Map your hostel or apartment strictly near an Orange Line Train station or a Metro Bus stop. Paying 40 PKR for a chilled, rapid commute across the entire city will save your sanity and your wallet.
2. Surviving the Winter Smog
From November to January, Lahore experiences brutal, toxic smog. As a student commuting daily, you must invest in N95 masks. Riding a motorcycle to university at 8 AM in December without a mask will result in severe chronic coughing right before your final exams.
3. The Food Economy
Lahore has a massive culinary scene, but eating at Johar Town cafes every day will bankrupt you. Learn the locations of massive, high-quality, subsidized student Dhabas (like the ones outside PU or in Anarkali). You can secure heavy, protein-rich meals (like Chana Daal and Roti) for under 200 PKR.
