Lahore University Admissions 2026: Deadlines, Tests & Merit Guide
Lahore absorbs the highest volume of undergraduate applications in Pakistan. Securing a seat requires mapping out test timelines perfectly.
1. The ECAT / NAT Divide
In Lahore, universities rigidly divide into two testing camps. UET and its highly affiliated colleges strictly require the UET ECAT (held usually in June/July). COMSATS Lahore and FAST Lahore, however, rely on NTS NAT or their own specialized tests (NU test). You must prepare for both streams simultaneously if you want to keep all options open.
2. Navigating the Merit Lists
Lahore universities are famous for deep merit drops. FAST Lahore's first merit list might look terrifyingly high, but by the third list, it frequently drops by 3% to 4% as students abandon seats for medical colleges or NUST. Never withdraw your application just because you missed the first list by a small margin.
3. The Private Backup Window
If mid-July hits and your ECAT/NAT scores are abysmal, immediately trigger your backup plan. Institutions like UCP, UMT, and Superior University leave their admission portals open until late August. Secure a seat there and pay the initial fee to prevent a gap year while you wait for uncertain public sector final lists.
