Land Your First Internship: Guide for CS & Engineering Students
Graduating with a high CGPA is great, but software houses prioritize developers who have shipped actual code. You need internships.
1. Build Before the 6th Semester
Do not wait until the mandatory summer break after your 6th semester to start looking. By your 4th semester, you should have built 2-3 personal portfolio projects (e.g., a React Native app or a localized Django inventory system) that you can showcase.
2. GitHub is Your Resume
Local recruiters at top tier houses (Devsinc, Systems Ltd, Arbisoft) want to see your code quality. Commit your code to GitHub regularly. Let them see your commit history. If your GitHub is empty, your technical resume is practically empty.
3. Direct Cold Emails to Engineering Leads
HR departments are flooded with thousands of identical PDF resumes. Go on LinkedIn, find the "Lead Frontend Engineer" or "Engineering Manager" at the company you like, and send them a direct message with a link to your deployed project.
