A Freshman's Guide to Campus Life in Lahore (Food, Transport & Societies)
Moving to Lahore for university is an incredible experience. The city thrives on its student population. Here is how to navigate the Lahore campus ecosystem effectively.
1. Transport: The Orange Line & Speedo Network
Lahore's transport infrastructure is exceptional. Between the Orange Line Metro Train and the centralized Speedo bus system, you can traverse from UET to Thokar Niaz Baig for under Rs. 60. Get a student metro card immediately upon arrival to bypass daily ticket queues.
2. Food: Beyond the University Cafe
Do not eat from your university cafe every day.
- Johar Town (Near UCP and UMT): The absolute hub for student-friendly cafes and massive fast-food discounts.
- Wapda Town & Valencia (Near COMSATS): Shawarma joints and late-night Dhabas provide heavy meals for cheap.
3. Dealing with Smog Season
From November to January, Lahore experiences brutal smog. As a student walking across campus or waiting for buses, you must wear an N95 mask. Do not take this lightly; the smog will severely impact your lungs and cause chronic coughs right before final exams.
