UET ECAT Preparation Guide 2026: Merit Formula & Strategies
The UET Engineering College Admission Test (ECAT) is the gateway to public engineering in Punjab. It tests FSc concepts, but under intense speed constraints.
1. Negative Marking is the True Enemy
The ECAT uses severe negative marking. Guessing randomly will aggressively destroy your score. If you do not know the formula to solve a complex Physics numerical, leave it blank. Scoring a zero on a question is infinitely better than losing points you earned on a correct Chemistry section.
2. The FSc Textbook Domination
Unlike the NUST NET which requires strong conceptual extrapolation, the UET ECAT frequently pulls exact lines, constant values, and direct formulas straight from the Punjab Textbook Board (PTB) FSc books. You must memorize the exact values of physical constants and standard chemical reactions from the book.
3. Time Distribution
You have roughly one minute per MCQ. Math and Physics are calculation-heavy; Chemistry and English are purely fact-based. Speedrun the Chemistry and English sections in 15 seconds per question so you can bank 2-3 minutes for the heavy calculus integration problems in the Math section.
