Balancing a Part-Time Job and University Studies in Pakistan
Working part-time as a student is becoming standard, whether for financial independence or early career experience. But maintaining your GPA while working requires ruthless time management.
1. Remote Freelancing Over Retail
If you are a CS or SE student, avoid physical retail/fast-food jobs. Register on Fiverr or Upwork for basic HTML/CSS or WordPress tasks. The ability to pause your freelance "gig" entirely during the two weeks of midterms will save your GPA.
2. Weekend Loading
If you work at a software house or call center, negotiate to load your hours heavily on Saturdays and Sundays. Trying to commute from NUST or COMSATS to an office every Tuesday evening after four consecutive lectures is a guaranteed recipe for burnout.
3. Transparent Communication
Never hide your student status from your employer. If they know you are enrolled, a good boss will let you swap shifts during your finals week. If they refuse to accommodate university exams, that job will eventually cost you your degree.
