Choosing a university purely based on "prestige" can destroy your career. Use this 3-step framework.
1. The Alumni Placement Metric
Do not look at the campus buildings; look at the alumni network on LinkedIn. Search "BS Computer Science FAST." If you see hundreds of profiles working at Microsoft or Arbisoft, it's a stellar program. If you search a mid-tier local university and find zero alumni working in the industry after 5 years, run away.
2. Public Sector (Cost) vs Private Sector (Network)
If money is extremely tight, choose the public sector (UET, PU, QAU). It gives you the "HEC Recognized" stamp for minimal cost. However, if your family can afford 2 Million PKR comfortably, investing in LUMS or FAST provides incredibly fast ROI purely through the tier-1 corporate recruitment drives that only happen at private elite campuses.
3. The Grading Ease for Foreign Scholarships
If your absolute goal is to migrate to Germany or the USA for a Master's degree, do not go to a university famous for brutally low GPAs. A 3.8 CGPA from COMSATS will secure a foreign scholarship vastly faster than a 2.5 CGPA from a harder engineering university. Optimize for the CGPA.
