FYP Complete Guide — How to Choose, Plan & Execute
Your Final Year Project (FYP) dictates your initial job placement and graduation status. A bad FYP traps you in university for an extra semester.
1. Team Selection is Critical
Do not pick your best friends. Pick high-agency workers. If you make a team of 4 people who all specialize in "planning" but nobody knows how to actually code or build hardware, you will fail. You need 1 strict Project Manager, 2 core Developers/Builders, and 1 Documentation/QA specialist.
2. Avoid "World Changing" Scopes
Do not pitch: "We are building an AI that cures cancer using Blockchain." The panel will fail you for unrealistic scoping. Pitch: "We are building an automated attendance system using a lightweight local face-recognition model for 50 students." Under-promise during the pitch, and over-deliver at the final defense.
3. The Sponsor Route
Always try to get an industry sponsor. Approach a local software house or factory and ask if you can build a small module for them as your FYP. Industry-sponsored FYPs are graded much more leniently by universities because they have "real world validation."
